Brief History of Sta.Rosa

Back in 1570s, Juan de Salcedo (Spanish Conquistador), a grandson of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, while exploring Laguna Lake discovered Binan which was annexed as Barrio to Tabuco (now town of Cabuyao).

Barrio Bukol (former name of Santa Rosa during this time) was part of Binan.

Dominican missionaries who arrived, preached in Barrio Bukol of Tabuco.

In 1688, Binan together with Barrio Bukol separated from Cabuyao.

After a series of renaming, separation of barrios to become independent towns, Barrio Bukol was politically emancipated as a municipality in January 18, 1792.

Barrio Bukol then was renamed to Municipality of Santa Rosa after Saint Rosa of Lima, Peru.

Then Filipino Revolution started in 1896 from Cavite.  Areas around Cuartel de Sto.Domingo was attacked by Filipino revolutionaries.

During the revolutionary period, the town was instrumental in the proclamation of Philippine independence from Spain when it signed the Act of Independence on June 12, 1898. Later on the town's local revolutionaries fought alongside the forces of Pío del Pilar during the Philippine–American War.
